Aerial views of Lower Matecumbe in 1957, 1964 and today. Note the extensive areas of dead mangroves in 1964 image from hurricane Donna in 1960. In the current image one can see not only that they have no only recovered but they have extended by about 200 yards. A similar pattern can also be seen along the south shore of Lignumvitae Key at the top of the image
